Berlin-based, Danish contemporary composer, singer-songwriter, pianist and producer AGNES OBEL is coming to Australia and New Zealand in October as part of an expansive tour commencing in Berlin in June and finishing at the prestigious Paris Philharmonic.
Agnes Obel’s first full length studio album, Philharmonics released in 2010, won multiple awards including Best Debut Artist and Best Album at the Danish Music Awards. The record itself is currently registered as six times platinum in her native Denmark, platinum in both Belgium & France and certified Gold in the Netherlands. Following the success of Philharmonics, her full length studio albums Aventine and Citizen Of Glass both won multiple accolades from fans and critics alike. Citizen Of Glass won Impala Music’s European Independent Album of the Year award, and both albums were supported by touring across the world, including extensive tours in the UK, Europe and United States.
Further commercial release came with the celebrated Late Night Tales compilation album series, released under the label of the same name in May 2018. Other famous contributors to mention include Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Jon Hopkins, Franz Ferdinand & Snow Patrol amongst others.
In 2020, Obel released her most recent album, Myopia – released through Deutsche Grammophon, Universal Music Group’s prestigious Yellow Label, and the legendary Blue Note Records in the US. Following the same principles as her previous albums, Obel completed the album as a one-woman project in her own Berlin home studio, to further critical acclaim.
2022 shapes up to be an exciting and busy period for Obel as she heads back out on the road, over 2 years since her 2020 European tour was cut short by the onset of the pandemic. Backed by her band consisting of cello and percussion, Agnes Obel and her ethereal and ornate sound is set to bring a captivating live performance to City Recital Hall this October.
