A Little Re-opening Music: Jacqui Dark Sings Brel

With his uncompromising lyricism and gorgeous songs of love, longing and loathing, Jacques Brel remains one of the most popular recording artists in France and Belgium.

The master of chanson, Brel’s influential catalogue is a trove of fearlessly vulnerable and sardonic observations of the human spirit and has been covered in English by artists such as David Bowie, Scott Walker, and Nina Simone.

Award-winning mezzo-soprano Jacqui Dark returns to the City Recital Hall stage following celebrated performances in Pinchgut Opera's The Loves of Apollo and Dafne and the Australian Ballet's rendition of Anna Karenina to bring her superb twist on Brel's timeless classics. 

Accompanied by musical director Daryl Wallis on piano and with Sam Russell as Creative Advisor, Jacqui's vocal brilliance and emotional intensity will leave no soul untouched.
